Is the younger brother of Danish NHL-star, Frans Nielsen who is a teammate at the Danish World Cup team this season…Is son of former Danish hockey legend, Frits Nielsen…Has a long history of goalkeeping in the Danish League…was outstanding in the 2004/05 playoffs where he – as one of the youngest goalies ever – led Blue Fox Herning to the Danish league title with an astonishing performance in the finals against AaB Ishockey…Played two seasons at Rødovre (2006-08) before trying his luck at Amarillo Gorillaz in the Central Hockey League…he played one game before returning to Europe…Won the battle against Nikolaj Nørbak to become the preferred goalie at AaB Ishockey in the 2010/11 season…came back home to Denmark after a successfull season at SapKo, Savonlinna in the Finnish 2nd Tier, The Mestis…Returned back to Finland for the 2011/12-season where he started the season as the back up-goalie at Lukko Rauma…After new year 2012 he worked himself into the spot as the 1st goalie at Lukko…In 2013/2014 he had mostly been the backup-goalie at Lukko but has played some solid games for the Danish NT…Celebrated the bronze medal with Lukko (FIN) but saw only limited game time during the season. Still the excellent finnish goalkeeper coaching developed him and he moved on to Kassel Huskies in DEL2 but his stint there was less succesfull…played the last part of the season at Lørenskog in Norway’s GET-Liga…Moved home to Herning Blue Fox for 2015/16-season and became a clear number one…was selected for the All Star Team of the Danish Metal Ligaen 2015/16…Once again dresses for Team Denmark for the IIHF World Championship in 2017 in Cologne, Germany…Experience, skill and great mentality no matter his assignment Simon challenges his team mates during practises and is a solid anchorman in the games.
